WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Insured Retirement Institute (IRI) won recognition for its advocacy efforts to help America’s workers and retirees recover from the economic consequences caused by the COVID- 19 pandemic. The American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) awarded IRI with its 2021 ASAE Power of A Silver Award.

IRI achieved the award for its advocacy efforts during the pandemic to advance a five-point legislative plan to help workers and retirees hold onto their tax-deferred savings longer, thereby providing an opportunity to recoup any losses their account balances may have incurred. The plan also offered ways for workers and retirees to save more as businesses reopen. To advance this initiative, IRI rallied an industry coalition consisting of the ERISA Industry Committee (ERIC), Finseca, the National Association for Fixed Annuities (NAFA), the National Association of Independent Life Brokerage Agencies (NAILBA), and the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA).

The ASAE Power of A Award highlights the association community’s valuable contributions to society at the local, national and global levels. The Power of A Awards Judging Committee selected the winners.

“Our team is a dedicated, passionate group of professionals who work hard each day to deliver for our members and our industry,” said Wayne Chopus, IRI President and CEO. “Achieving this recognition from the most prominent organization in the association community signifies IRI’s commitment to excellence on behalf of our members.”

This is the third ASAE award for IRI. Last year, IRI won a Power of A Gold Award for its efforts to pass the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement Act. In 2019, IRI took an ASAE Gold Circle Award in the convention/meetings marketing campaign category for its annual conference.
ASAE is a membership organization of more than 46,000 association executives and industry partners representing 7,400 organizations. Its members lead, manage, and work in or partner with organizations in more than a dozen association management disciplines, from executive management to finance to technology.
